This is a delicious smoothie recipe that is full of superfoods and nutrient-dense ingredients to support sex drive, quality of orgasms and decrease vaginal dryness.

With the onset of your menopausal years, you may be working less and have more time for yourself. Paradoxically, your hormones are sabotaging you: reducing your sex drive, energy levels and other mental and physical aspects you need to enjoy yourself.

Though many women will opt to take estrogen therapy or use an estrogen cream, botanicals and foods can also be an effective way to achieve the same results as bio identical hormones.

Feed yourself meals that increase menopause libido such as the smoothie recipe below.

However, you may be surprised to know it’s possible to reduce the symptoms with an endometriosis diet! Many women struggle with the symptoms of endometriosis but don’t know that they have this condition. Regrettably, only advanced stages of endometriosis show up on medical tests.

Below is part of the approach I use to help my clients control their endometriosis and, if they are working on fertility, to help them conceive.

Try This Chocolate Milkshake to Increase Fertility

By | Blog, Fertility and Menstrual Health, Smoothies | No Comments

This smoothie is full of superfoods to balance hormones, increase energy, decrease pms symptoms and boost libido. It tastes like a chocolate milkshake but it’s dairy free and nutrient dense. You can enjoy it as a meal (especially if you add protein powder) or an afternoon pick me up.

Here’s why this smoothie recipe is so good for women’s health:

Avocado is a clinically proven fertility superfood! A study found that women who ate avocados and other healthy fats during IVF treatment tripled their chances of conception! One avocado gives you your recommended daily allowance of folate which is important for preventing early term birth defects. You also get healthy fats, Vitamin E and other B vitamins that are so crucial for women’s hormone balance.

Cacao Powder is a potent aphrodisiac. Chocolate contains PEA, the love molecule, that your brain naturally produces during orgasm. It also helps lower cortisol (one of your stress hormones). Cacao is incredibly nutrient dense and is considered one of the most chemically complex foods on the planet.

Maca is a powdered root from Peru that is known for its endocrine balancing and energizing properties.

Vanilla synergies deliciously with chocolate and has a mild stimulant and aphrodisiac effect. Vanilla powder, which is ground vanilla beans,  is the most potent form of vanilla but you can also use an organic vanilla extract.

Banana is high in vitamin b6 and potassium which both help reduce pms symptoms, bloating and cramping. Optimal levels of B6 is important for conception and reducing morning sickness in pregnancy. If you get your B6 levels up before you get pregnancy you will be less likely to have symptoms of morning sickness.

Lucuma Powder is a starchy dried fruit from Peru that adds a creamy flavour to this smoothie. Lucuma is high in B vitamins.

Collagen Peptide Protein Powder  makes this smoothie a meal with a balanced macronutrient ratio. I like this collagen peptide protein powder from Vital Proteins because it has gut healing properties and it doesn’t effect the smoothie’s texture or flavour.

For fertility, this recipe is most effective during the follicular and ovulatory phases of your cycle. If you’re in Canada you can order all of the superfoods for this recipe at The Light Cellar.  Order collagen peptide protein powder here

Apple, Sprout and Ginger Autumn Green Smoothie

By | Blog, Hormone Balancing Recipes, Smoothies | No Comments

I’ve been making this smoothie every morning for the last week.  It’s super fast and simple to make and the ginger, mint and apples add a delicious flavour.

Why I love this smoothie:

1. It’s from local ingredients. The apples are from my grandparents orchard in British Colombia, the pears are from a tree down the alley from our house and the sprouts were grown by friends.  Sprouts are nutrient dense with a high profile of minerals, vitamins and protein.

2. Usually green smoothies are cooling on the body. As we get into the cooler months of the year it is really important to feed the body more warming foods (especially firth thing in the morning). The dried ginger powder is incredibly warming . Ginger powder increases circulation, soothes digestion and contains sulfur compounds that reduce inflammation and enhances the beauty of the skin.

3. It doesn’t have vegetables in the cruciferous family such as kale, collards, broccoli and cabbage. When these vegetables are consumed raw they are goitrogenic; when eaten in excess they can cause goiters, decreased thyroid function that can lead to hypothyroidism. I prefer to have my cruciferous vegetables cooked or fermented to deactivate the goitrogenic properties.

Apple, Sprout and Ginger Autumn Green Smoothie

1 Apple, cored and quartered

1 Pear, cored and quartered

2 Stalks of celery

1 cup  Fresh Sprouts and/ or micro-greens such as sunflower, pea or arugula.

1 Small handful of fresh mint

1 tsp dried ginger powder

1/3 cup Pure Water

Add all the ingredients to a high power blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!
